South of Spicewood Springs, north of 2222, between Loop 360 and Mopac, sits Northwest Hills, a true neighborhood community, about 10 minutes away from downtown. Shaded lots filled with old oak trees, wide streets perfect for an evening stroll or early morning jog, and neatly manicured lawns, will make you feel comfortable at once and ready to settle in. And many residents have. Many homes are the original ranch homes built in the late 60’s and early 70’s when the neighborhood was established, and many are still owned by the original owners. There are plenty of remodeled ones, too, with styles ranging from Colonial to California ranch, and even some Texas Tuscan style as well. Residents here have a sense of pride in ownership and are committed to maintaining a peaceful environment that is both orderly and appealing. The neighborhood association actively works with the City on zoning issues when needed to ensure that a high quality of life is maintained for its residents. They plan fun things, too, like the annual 4th of July parade and various picnics throughout the year.
Condos, townhomes, and apartments draw students to Northwest Hills, keeping this mostly family-oriented neighborhood young, relaxed, and mindful that Austin is a college town. Parents will love not only that their children are attending award-winning schools, but that they can practically walk or ride their bikes (many do!) given the close proximity. Actually just about everything is within walking distance if you’re up for it – the grocery store, the dry cleaners, an elegant restaurant, Starbucks, the hardware store, you name it – and many are family owned. In case you’re not up for a walk, you can always workout at the Dell Jewish Community Center, a state of the art facility on forty acres with all the latest workout equipment, an outdoor heated swimming pool, ball fields, and enough programs to keep every member of the family happy, all for a very reasonable monthly fee. Peaceful, efficient, and beautiful, Northwest Hills is one neighborhood that will remain strong in Austin for generations to come. Homes range from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet, and from $400,000 to $1.5 million.
