Ask any native Austinite where Great Hills is and they’ll say something like “way up North”. My how things can change. By today’s standards Great Hills is barely north. A new “mini-downtown”, Great Hills serves as a hub for neighborhoods north and west, and even those smack dab in the middle of the city. Close to 183, Loop 360, and Mopac, many residents find Great Hills as the perfect “in between point” for commuting, if, for example, one works in Round Rock and the other works downtown. With a home in Great Hills, they both win. Work isn’t the only thing that’s convenient, however. Every possible shopping destination you can imagine – from Neiman-Marcus to TJ Maxx, and everything in between – is within arm’s reach in Great Hills. It seems to just keep getting better too, with a massive Whole Foods Market that rivals its Flagship downtown location, planned to open at the Domain soon.
And if location weren’t enough, the beauty of Great Hills distinguishes it from other suburban neighborhoods. Mature shady trees cover serene streets, making it the perfect neighborhood for a bike ride with the kids, an evening stroll with the dog, or a morning jog all alone. Moms in the neighborhood host a Wednesday morning playgroup for the kiddos at Great Hills Park – a park that was birthed by, and is completely run by neighborhood volunteers. This committed neighborhood group also puts on the annual Easter Egg Hunt, Fourth of July parade, National Night Out potluck dinner, and even a Halloween parade. Though the styles and sizes of homes vary greatly throughout the Great Hills area, most were built between 1979-2006 on nice-sized, tree-covered lots, many of which back up to the greenbelt or the Great Hills Country Club golf course. With the beauty of the Austin hills out your back window and every convenience at your fingertips, Great Hills offers comfortable, down-to-earth living without having to head to the burbs.
